چکیده

Intervertebral disc (IVD) degeneration is an underlying pathological process which leads to lower back pain (1). Whilst initial weakening of IVDs may be asymptomatic, subsequent disc herniation can cause spinal stenosis and segmental instability (2). Conservative or surgical management can alleviate clinical symptoms, but may be unable to prevent continued degeneration. As degenerative disc disease has been shown to be heritable, studies have analysed associations between IVD degeneration and genetic changes (3-5). Recently, a singlenucleotide polymorphism of the cartilage intermediate layer protein (CILP) gene was identified as a possible etiological factor in IVD degeneration (5). However, there has since been conflicting evidence as to the role of CILP gene polymorphism rs2073711 in susceptibility to IVD degeneration (3,5,6). Here we summarise the main study from Wang and colleagues.

Association Between Cartilage Intermediate Layer Protein and Degeneration of Intervertebral Disc: A Meta-analysis.

STUDY DESIGN Meta-analysis to collect all eligible studies for investigating whether cartilage intermediate layer protein (CILP) gene rs2073711 polymorphism is associated with susceptibility to intervertebral disc degeneration (IVD). OBJECTIVE To investigate the association between CILP gene rs2073711 and IVD. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA CILP is one of the limited genes that is being suggest...

Association of Rs1676486 genetic polymorphism and lumbar disc degeneration in Iranian population

Background: lumbar disc degeneration is a multifactorial degenerative disease which is affected by genetic inheritance and environmental factors. Type XI collagen is important for organization of the extracellular matrix and cartilage collagen construction. Rs1676486 is a SNP that causes the conversion of C-T, resulting in a change in the expression of the collagen 11 alpha chain. The T allele ...

Degenerative Disc Disease: A Review of Cell Technologies and Stem Cell Therapy

Background & Aim: Low back pain is broadly documented as one of the most widespread pathologies in the advanced domain. Although the reasons of low back pain are uncountable, it has been meaningfully related to intervertebral disc degeneration. Present therapies for Intervertebral Disc (IVD) degeneration such as physical therapy and spinal fusion reduce symptoms' severity, but do not treat the ...

Cartilage Intermediate Layer Protein and Asporin Polymorphisms Are Independent Risk Factors of Lumbar Disc Degeneration in Male Collegiate Athletes

OBJECTIVE Lumbar disc degeneration (LDDG), recently reported to have strong genetic determinants, is a major cause of discopathy and lower back pain. However, most studies have only evaluated the effects of a single susceptibility polymorphism. Our purpose was to examine the effect of two susceptibility polymorphism for LDDG in Japanese collegiate athletes. DESIGN We investigated two suscepti...

استفاده از پلاسمای غنی از پلاکت در بازسازی دیسک بین مهره ای: مروری بر مطالعات پیش بالینی و آزمایشات بالینی

Intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) is a prevalent disease that usually starts from the third decade of life and it is considered as one of the reasons contributing to social and economic problems. The results of several studies have shown that platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has the ability to stimulate cell growth and proliferation of extracellular matrix. However, studies for IDD have so far m...
